Looking back on a successful FESPA 2018 in Berlin

Earlier this month we attended the FESPA Global Print Expo in Berlin from the 15th to 18th May 2018, an important annual event in the diary for brands, distributors, and printers, both screen and digital, across the textile industry.

This year, MagnaColours® were the water-based ink partner and sponsor for the brand-new fashion textile feature, Print Make Wear. Organised by FESPA, Print Make Wear had its own stand and allowed collaborators from all corners of the industry the chance to experience a scaled down version of a live production environment, illustrating different steps in the screen and digital production process. Design, colour management and printing processes were demonstrated by each partner, whilst an array of finished garments were worn by catwalk models throughout the week.

With live screen-printing demonstrations being showcased on the Print Make Wear stand by Magna, visitors were wowed by the performance of our water-based inks. 12 stations on a large oval screen-printing machine were used to create a complicated 8 colour design by printmaker and designer Sanna Annuka.

The centre of attention was the MagnaPrint® EDGE ink, developed to enable the printing of multi-coloured designs on to light or dark coloured garments, whether wet or dry, without the need for numerous flash units in-between. The new EDGE ink system was complimented by our special effects inks, MagnaPrint® Bling and Expanding NF, which added metallic and high-build textures to the T-shirts demonstrating just what’s achievable with water-based ink technology.

Helen Parry, Managing Director of MagnaColours® said: “When FESPA approached us to be part of the Print Make Wear feature and demonstrate our cutting-edge technology in water-based inks, we were delighted. The event was a huge success, with visitors witnessing our inks in action whilst being able to learn all about the benefits of water-based technology during the live tours. We had an extremely positive response and the T-shirts went down a storm with the delegates.”
