Realising the ‘impossible’ with water-based inks

In the February edition of Impressions Magazine, we explained why water-based inks present new possibilities for printers. Alongside the environmental benefits of water-based inks, the case now has to be made about performance. Printers should never compromise on quality, and this has led the innovation revolution.

“The emergence of environmental mindfulness can be seen throughout homes, corporations and organisations, covering different markets and industries, and textile screen-printing is no exception.MagnaColours® are proud to have led the revolution in water-based inks, and others are beginning to follow, but they are still not being used universally.

The Inertia Challenge
Progress has been thwarted by the misconception of the performance of water-based textile inks. Many printers desire an environmentally friendly alternative to chemically harmful inks, but often feel that they must sacrifice quality, but technology developments mean that there’s no compromise on performance.

Boundaries are being broken all the time by those who dare to be pioneers, so it’s surprising that some are still choosing not to use water-based inks. The excuse that they are not as efficient, or impose limitations is no longer valid as there is little that cannot be achieved using water-based textile inks.

Making the Impossible, Possible

To date, MagnaColours® has developed inks that allow manufacturers to achieve metallic, stretchy, glossy, reflective and glitter finishes, something that many in the industry believed would never be possible using water-based inks.
MagnaColours® continues to innovate every day, with industry firsts such as formaldehyde-free discharge printing. We’ve created environmentally friendly solutions to a vast range of industry problems and achieved things industry experts didn’t believe possible.

Innovate to Succeed
As responsible businesses, we need to ensure we’re striving to the highest standards. As governments and regulatory bodies put pressure on printers to begin implementing more environmentally friendly practices, the use of water-based textile inks is set to become more widespread. But regardless of regulations, the focus shouldn’t be on doing the right thing because you are ‘required to do so’, but because it is the right thing to do.
As more consumers become aware of environmental issues, they’re more motivated towards change, affecting purchasing decisions. It’s essential for printers to explore the options, not only for environmental benefit, but for the future of their business.
