“We spoke to Andrew about the industry, his hopes and wishes for the future, and about working with Magna Colours. “It’s great to see them become a global player, we knew they were first in class anyway, that’s why we use them. They are the only credible water-based company out there” he enthuses. The depth of the relationship is clear to see.
During Andrews’ visit to our Magna Academy, he took the opportunity to look at our products and to see if there was anything new that they would be interested in working on. As a business that works closely with Magna, they jumped at the opportunity.
Although personally keen to embrace water-based inks from the very beginning, Andrew acknowledges that for some printers, there have been factors preventing them from being as enthusiastic. Despite this, he praised Magna’s efforts to integrate water-based inks further into the industry: “Magna are making it more accessible for manufacturers to understand how to apply and use water-based inks, it’s a nice step change from how it used to be where printers had no guidance from ink manufacturers. The academy is a brilliant idea.”
In order to have an advantage over their competitors, Andrew’s company, NJ Screenprints Ltd, have always favoured adopting new technologies early on, this is how they began working with water-based inks and Magna. Since employing these products themselves, Andrew has witnessed some changes, “The view of water-based inks is definitely changing, it’s changing by force, not by choice in a lot of cases. A lot of companies are very stuck in their ways; they don’t want to change. We were very early adopters of any new technology, or anything environmental, ethical that we can do and start out from the grass roots.”
One benefit of working with Magna that Andrew identified was that he can send his printers to our Magna Academy to learn more about the products and their composition. They have access to the proper training to achieve the best possible results. “Magna have been really helpful, if we have a product that they have developed, we can critique that and they’ll actually tailor it in a bespoke way to achieve exactly what we want it to do. “
The confidence that the Magna Academy facility has given Andrew has led him to make a big decision regarding his own business, “I see our relationship with Magna progressing brilliantly. We’re even talking about having our own lab in house with a Magna chemist there full time to be able to develop products on press in a production environment. The two companies can come together to create great products.” With this in mind, it looks like the relationship between Magna Colours and NJ Screenprints Ltd is set to flourish.”
